The 5-minute nightly reset
You don't need an hour-long evening routine. Five intentional minutes are enough to wake up to a calmer home and a quieter mind. Do these in order, tonight.
Step 1
Clear the surfaces (1 minute)
Walk through the room you unwind in and return anything out of place — cups to the kitchen, throw folded, chargers back to their spot. You're not cleaning; you're closing the day visually so tomorrow doesn't start behind.
Step 2
Set tomorrow's launch pad (1 minute)
Put what tomorrow needs in one visible spot: keys, bag, a filled water glass by the kettle. Future-you wakes up to a home that's already helping.
Step 3
Lower the lights (30 seconds)
Switch off harsh overhead lighting and keep one warm, low light. It's a simple cue, but your body reads it clearly: the day is ending.
Step 4
Add one calming scent (30 seconds)
Start your diffuser or light a candle with a scent you only use in the evening. Within a week, that scent alone starts telling your mind it's time to slow down.
Step 5
Ten slow breaths (2 minutes)
Sit on the edge of the bed. Breathe in for four counts, out for six, ten times. The longer exhale is what settles a busy mind.
